Blaencaron hostel, Tregaron

opened 1950 - closed 2006

A former school, Blaencaron was taken over by the YHA in 1950. A group of German young people helped with renovation work as part of a venture to rebuild ties after the second world war.

It was well situated as a youth hostel, being at the foot of the Elenydd hills and within walking distance of Tregaron, Cors Caron Nature Reserve and the ruins of Strata Florida Abbey.

Dechreuodd Blaencaron fel ysgol ond daeth dan adaen y YHA ym 1950. Criw o Almaenwyr ifanc bu'n helpu gydag atgyweiro'r adeilad fel rhan o fenter creu cyswllt gwell wedi'r ail rhyfel byd.

Mae mewn lleoliad gwych fel hostel YFA, wrth droed bryniau'r Elenydd ac o fewn pellter cerdded o Dregaron, Gwarchodfa Natur Cors Caron ac adfeilion Strata Florida.

This is a fantastic little hostel. Visiting hostels like this is what youth hostelling should be about. Have loved staying here.
It is a comfort to know that you can walk in here after a hard day's walk and find all you need. Excellent.

This is my second visit, just re-affirms how precious these few remaining small hostels are with a magic like no other.
Dyma'r lle i fod! Digon o heddwch - a defaid!
It is hard to leave a small patch of paradise, but we shall return.
